Lego Land Discovery Center Review

We recently went to visit the Lego Land Discovery Center at Grapevine Mills Mall.

I really didn't do my research, but just knew I wanted something to do while we were in town.

Make sure you book on-line! You get a discount, plus you will be guaranteed entrance.

Also, you don't have to wait in the same line as those that have to buy there tickets.

We got there about 9:45 and were at the beginning of the line.

When you first get there you go to a ten minute professor Brick Brack introduction of Legos.

He goes over how legos are made. I am sure older kids would appreciate this, it won't over my kids heads.

After that you ride one of the two rides. It was a little scary at first. You are trying to rescue the princess. If your child can't walk they can't ride the ride. Luckily, we had a grandparent there who could hold the baby.

Afterwards we went to see the 3-D movie, Bob the Builder.

My three and five year old liked the movie a lot.

I love to see kids stick their hands out at 3-D movies.

The best part of Lego Land was the miniature version of Dallas and Fort Worth Landmarks.

My son loved the Cowboys and Rangers stadiums.

It is amazing to see!

There is also another ride, lego car building with ramps, and two play areas.

My kids loved the big play area.

Make sure your kids have socks to play on the big play area.

It was like a glorified mall play ground to me.

It would be hard to imagine older kids liking the Discovery Center.

Overall, it is a fun place to take the younger kids to play.

It is a little pricey.

It was very clean!!!!

And finally, my kids were able to each get a souvenir.

We got a cheap, make your own lego guy for $3 each.

My Birthday

My birthday was this past Monday.

One of the main things I asked for was to just spend time with the fam, and we did!

We woke up with doughnuts!

We sold our car.

We went to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants,

but discovered I think I like it better as a date night.

After dinner we opened gifts. I got a griddle/grill pan, new skillet and a new workout shirt.

Cole and the kids did great with the gifts!

tea towels

I have a large stack of kitchen towels that have still been in the packages since I got married. No, I didn't just get married. I have been married for 6 1/2 years!!!! So I decided I wanted to jazz them up a bit and some of you might be getting these as Christmas gifts:) The problem with flour sack towels is they are not even. So when I fold them you can see all of the edges from the other layers.

Finally, my LO's egg mosaics are up!!! Sorry it took so long. Don't you love the mermaid? The second one she really didn't use enough glue so the egg shells are not really stuck on the sheet. Oh, well! Look at some more great creative minds at work!

Grandparent gift

What do you give to Grandparents that pretty much have everything? Well, I am always trying to give them something unique and from my kiddos. Their grandfather loves coffee!!!!! So I had Chloe design some one of a kind coffee cup holders. We bought some cups and a bag of his favorite blend and there you go a unique gift!!!!

Today for open ended art my girly girl got to have fun with glue and beans. I gave her the suggestion of drawing a shape first and then filling it in with beans. She did a great job! I had some trouble getting the new button so to see some other great art projects go here.

Could this little guy be any cuter?

Our MOPS group is starting up tomorrow. This year and last we have started tmaking shirts for your kids to wear so that the teachers know their names. We use stamps to create the shirts, but this year I decided to try and use a freezer paper stencil. I wanted to get mine done ahead of time since I help with the meetings I didn't think I would have time tomorrow.

I should not have used black shirts, too hard for the paint to show up. Chloe's looks okay, Coleman's not so great. Anyone have any great ideas on how I should help cover up where his went out of the stencil. I thought about sewing some buttons on it to help hide the mistake, but I don't want it to look girly. Give me your thoughts:)

Open Ended Art-Mosaics-paper

This weeks open ended art was mosaics and paper. I cut Chloe a bunch of different shaped squares for her to create her masterpiece. I showed her some examples of mosaics on the computer and then just let her do her thing. Head on over to Teaching My Little Book Worm for some more great examples!

This month's Open Ended Art began a month long theme of Mosaics. The first one was supposed to be pebbles. I really like to stay with the theme, but I wasn't really sure how to do pebbles. So from a comment from the master mind behind Open Ended Art we decided to do flowers. Everyday I am asked, "Mommy, can I pick some flowers?". So, I let her pick a bunch of flowers and we made a flower mosaic. In the final picture the glue hadn't dried yet, so that is why it looks a little funny. At first I was just going to take a picture for her book, but I am trying to press the flowers so we can keep the real thing. We will be sticking with the themes in the future. I do have an idea though for another mosaic that involves some recycling. I will post that at a later time. I think she loved this week's theme!

Free UGG Boots

I really want a pair of UGG boots.

I have always felt weird about buying them b/c I am just not sure if they are me or not??? I am a short girl and sometimes short girls don't look great in boots. Nap mat

I have always thought nap mats are so expensive! So, I decided to make one myself. I have now come to the conclusion that they are not so costly, b/c they are sorda costly to make. If you want to make one I suggest taking the time to look for bargains. This project cost about 40 dollars to make. My friend Kristi sent me this tutorial. The changes I would make are in the amount of fabric for the mat. Instead of making it a square, I would make it a rectangle.

First Day of School Gifts

As a former teacher, I know how great it is to feel appreciated! So my LO brought these to her teachers for Meet the Teacher Day. These are some little flower pots I found for 3.99 each. I decided to fill them with some snacks, notepad, gum and a bottle of water.

Open Ended Art-Crayons

This weeks theme for Open Ended Art was Crayons. I thought that I would let my girl pick some flowers (one of her favorite things to do) and try to do some rubbings. This worked for a few minutes then she decided to try coloring on the flowers. She then moved to one of her other things to do-trace hands. I am a little scared at the hand she did for me. Coleman decided he was going to throw the crayons today. In his defense he has not been feeling well. Next week is mosaics: pebbles. Since I have no pebbles I am going to have to go on a hunt!

Chocolate play dough

Am I really making play dough, b/c it sure doesn't smell like it!

I found a new blog that is amazing! She had a recipe for chocolate play dough that I just had to try. I was literally in bed last night anticipating it! She talked about how it really smelled like chocolate and I was a bit cynical! This is the most amazing play dough I have ever smelled! I was a little worried Chloe would want to eat it, but thankfully she didn't! She loved playing with it, and so did her brother! I just love the way they play together (most of the time).

Open Ended Art-Yellow with mixed media

My little man is ready to create with his apron and shoes on! I am glad we had the art apron on!!

So, this go around we did yellow with mixed media. Wasn't too sure about what to do with this one. I just put out different things my big girl could create with. I really had to try and not get frustrated, b/c she wasn't creating on the paper I wanted her to use. I am trying to get them to do at least some work on paper to make a book for them. She decided she was going to paint and use construction paper to make her one of a kind creation. Today I gave her another go at it with some yellow paint mixed with sand. I find that she starts off by painting things, for example today was an easter egg, then she just completely covers the page with paint. So, I feel like all of our pages are going to look the same. Any ideas for this, or should I let her do her thing?

My little boy once again was doing great for about five minutes. I let him only have paint and crayons.

Today we started our Open Ended Art from Teaching My Little Bookworm. I was adventurous and let my little guy join in the fun. I do have to remember that he has a short attention span. He did pretty well for about 3-4 minutes and then decided it was time to taste test the paint, oh well.

I decided to try Open Ended Art from Teaching My Little Bookworm's blog. I am not sure how well I did with the whole thing??? I thought it was supposed to be just let the kids do whatever they wanted with the supplies (which is really hard for me), but then I saw on other people's blogs how they had their kids do handprints and footprints, so I am not sure if I did it right or not??? Please excuse my grammar.

I gave Chloe some items she could make prints with and then let her go for it, I did make her do a handprint.

Going Away

I know this picture isn't the easiest to identify, but it is a bag of gifts. My husband and I are going overseas for 8 days and I have never left my kids that long. I am so anxious about it!!!!! So, I thought I would have a gift for my daughter to open everyday so she has something to look forward to. I hope this works:)

Flower Power

Well, I have been slacking on my blog, but for good reason. I have been out of town. So, when I got back in town I found out that it was Chloe's turn to bring snacks to school. I wanted to do something Easterish, but couldn't think of anything. I saw on a blog to make some chicks. Mine are quite different and not nearly as cute. I would post a link, but can't remember where

I saw them. I just used candy melts to pipe out the figures and added the flowers for eyes. I put them in a muffin, b/c her school asks for healthy snacks. I thought they turned out okay, at least Chloe loved them.

We have been working on the letter S this week. I thought we would make a snake, but Chloe was insistent on making a swan. She knew all on her own that Swan begins with a S!

Tracing our name

I have been trying to get Chloe to write her name. I thought maybe I would try this approach she did copy it once. I guess that is a good start! I put her name both upper and lower case on a piece of paper and then put wax paper on top. I let her use a sharpie (a rare moment) to trace on the wax paper. Luckily our clothing was sharpie free!

PRODUCT REVIEW: MASCARA

I have always felt like I have had the punies eyelashes! I remember one time in high school one of my best friends told me I really should start using mascara, and I told her I was wearing it. That is how short my eyelashes are people! So, I am always looking for the latest and greatest mascara out there. Sorry for the blurry picture this was taken with my phone.
I will start with the red tube, LOREAL Double Extend. This is a two step process and works great. I felt like my lashes were lengthened. The only problem was taking it off. I did not read the directions and tried to take it off with vaseline (how I normally remove my mascara). I was so freaked out b/c I thought my eyelashes were coming off. Really, they were little tubes of mascara. I had to stop using this b/c I never felt like I could get all the tubes off and felt like they got in my eyes.
The second container is Maybelline's Intense XXL. I use this one. I like it. I don't feel like my lashes look like they could grace the cover of a magazine, but they do feel a little longer. It is much easier to clean off as well!
So, there you have it! If you know of a great mascara let me know!

EGGS AND E

My friend Cheyenne suggested that I teach lowercase letters with the uppercase ones so here is

my first attempt at that.

Supplies: cleaned out egg shells, glue, construction paper, paintbrush.

I put the glue down and told Chloe to paint within the lines.

Then she added the crushed up shells.

Our final result. I thought this project might get a little messy, but it wasn't at all! I am hoping that she will learn both the lowercase and uppercase at the same time!

All you need for our fuzzy E is a piece of red foam, red feathers, two googly eyes, an orange piece of foam and some glue.
First I cut out the foam E

I put the glue on and Chloe put the creature together.

PRODUCT REVIEW: PARENTS PAINTS

I am going to start doing some product review on this blog, feel free to comment if you have ever used any of the items. First up is this set of paints my daughter got for her birthday. I really love the concept of them. You just squeeze the bottle and the paint comes out. They work really great. They are washable, which is a must with a 3 year old!

The only negative is I am not really sure how to properly clean them. I am afraid to use to much water b/c I don't want the water getting down into the paint. I always feel the need to end on a negative, it must be from my sorority days of pro, con, pro! I do love the assortment of colors and they are nice vivid colors on paper! Definitely a great craft item!

BIRTHDAY PARTY IDEAS

So, I have not realized I have had some comments on my blog. I didn't have my e-mail notification turned on. Here are a few pics from my daughter's cooking party. Really these are not the greatest pics, but I wanted you to see a few ideas!

First, the birthday table cloth. I started this on her first birthday and every year she puts a new hand print on it.

The next thing were these easy to make chef hats that cost me nothing! I had tons of tissue paper and even had some poster board. I cut a three inch high strip of poster board. Then I measured it around my daughter's head. I then taped the tissue paper on the inside and folded it over. I figured the kids would not want to wear them, but surprisingly they did! I also made each kid an apron and gave them a wooden spoon. Everything was really cheap!

I made these chef cupcakes from one of my new favorite books, Hello Cupcake! Super easy and super cute! More ideas will be coming b/c my son will be one in April and we are having a golf themed party for a Hole in ONE! Let me know if you have any ideas!

The Letter O

First let me apologize about how dark and shadowy these pictures are! We decided to study the letter O this week and make an owl. This was really easy and probably I did most of the work. I cut out all of the shapes out of fun foam. I put globs of glue and let Chloe put the pieces on the O. Pretty easy stuff!

L is for Lime

I have really been slacking with teaching Chloe her ABC's. So, we decided to start with her name. We didn't do much for C, b/c I really felt like she knew C pretty well. We started with H's and did hearts the week of Valentines. This past week we did L. I thought I would try a variation on apple printing. I made a big L and let her use limes to stamp. The best way to reinforce the letters with Chloe is to letter hunt whenever we read. She has gotten pretty good at these three letters, so we are going to move onto the letter O next.

Bubble wrap prints

We decided this year for our Valentine's Day cards to make bubble wrap prints. I have been wanting to try these for awhile and thought this would be a unique way to add dimension to a heart. If I had it to do over I would have outlined a big black heart so Chloe could have seen what she was creating, but she know what a heart is anyways. This was a fun project!

New Blog

I have been wanting to start a new blog for awhile, so I am finally up and running! It will be about crafts, food, things to do with the family or just things about kids in general. I love my job and want to be able to document it in every way! Just in case you were wondering I am a stay at home mom. I hope that if you have comments about anything we do you will post them. I love getting new ideas! And why the title? Because we all have C names and it was the only thing I could think of: A Sea of C's!
